R5 Goes to United Frame Works
For April Field Trip

            R5 students were introduced to the structural component industry with a field trip the United Frame Works. We were invited by Steve Whitehurst, president and founder, through Business Bridge, http://www.mesa.k12.co.us/businessbridge/ , a collaborative effort between Mesa County Valley School District 51, the Grand Junction Area Chamber of Commerce and the Mesa County Business Education Foundation.

            Positions at this plant begin at $9.50/hour and progress upwards with skill level. The highest paid positions are structural designers who use CAD programs and software designed to choose the right design to meet building codes and customer demands.
 

             Their products include roof and floor trusses as well as framed and sheathed framed wall panels for building. Using this method, labor costs are reduced and structural integrity is guaranteed.
